Why there is no doc fee here
A doc fee is a dealer charge for paperwork. We decided that paperwork is part of selling a car, not a line on your contract. The price on the windshield is the price, and the money that goes anywhere else goes to the State of Illinois for tax, title and plates.
No dealer fees at Maxim Autos, ever. The price you see is the price you pay, plus tax, title, and license.
Financing for all credit levels, including buyers building or rebuilding their credit. Approval is never guaranteed, and the fee policy is the same on a financed deal as on a cash deal.
Buying from outside Illinois
We sell and deliver out of state, insured door to door. Before any money moves you get a personal video walkaround of the car, every scratch included, then digital paperwork and the car at your door.
Illinois collects tax from an out of state buyer under a schedule that depends on your state, so your total is not a ZIP lookup. Text us your ZIP and we answer with the exact number.
How buying from out of state worksQuestions buyers ask about fees
Does Maxim Autos charge a doc fee or dealer fees?
No. Illinois lets dealers add up to $377.63 in doc fees in 2026. At Maxim Autos that line is $0. There is no processing fee and no add on, on every deal, cash or financed. At signing you add only Illinois sales tax and the state title and plate fees.
What is the Illinois doc fee cap?
Illinois caps the documentary service fee a dealer may charge at $377.63 in 2026, and the fee is taxable, so it costs $405.95 at the Cook County suburb rate. Maxim Autos charges $0.
How is Illinois sales tax on a used car calculated?
On the purchase price, at the rate for the address where you register the car: 7.50% in a Cook County suburb such as Skokie or Evanston, 8.75% for a Chicago address, 7.25% in DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will, and the 6.25% state rate elsewhere in Illinois plus any county vehicle tax. A trade in reduces the taxable amount.

Is the estimated total on each vehicle page the final number?
It is an estimate for a cash purchase with no trade in, at the rate for your ZIP. The exact figure is calculated on your registration address at signing. The only thing that can move is the tax rate; no fee appears later.
Do you sell to buyers outside Illinois?
Yes. We sell and deliver out of state, insured door to door, with a personal video walkaround before you commit. What Illinois collects from an out of state buyer depends on your state, so text (847) 510-8947 with your ZIP for your exact total.
